What we collect and why
Newsletter
Your email address, and the date and source of your sign-up. We use it to send news about exhibitions, openings and new work. Basis: your consent. We keep it until you unsubscribe, which you can do from the link in every email.
Enquiries about work
Your name, email address, the work you asked about, and anything you write to us. We use it to answer you and, where a sale follows, to put you in touch with the maker. Basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract. We keep enquiries for two years; where a sale follows, financial records are kept for seven years under Dutch tax law.
Event registration
Your name, email address, the number of people attending, and which evening. We use it to manage capacity and admission. Basis: our legitimate interest in running the event. We delete registration data six months after the event, unless you also signed up for the newsletter.
Photography at events
We photograph our openings and public days for documentation and for reporting to funders. Signs at the entrance make this clear. If you would rather not appear in a photograph, tell any member of staff on the night or email us afterwards and we will remove the image.
Maker submissions
Makers who are considered for our programme are recorded in a curatorial register: name, date, how we came across the work, an assessment against our published criteria, the outcome, and — where we decline — a short reason. Basis: our legitimate interest in a selection practice that can be checked, and our accountability to funders. We keep this record for seven years after the decision. Makers can ask to see what we recorded about them, including the reason for a decline.
Website statistics
We count visits using Simple Analytics, which does not use cookies, does not store an identifier on your device and does not collect personal data. There is no consent banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to.
Cookies
This site sets no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies.
Who else sees your data
We use a small number of suppliers who process data on our behalf under a written agreement:
- our newsletter platform, to send and manage mailings;
- our form provider, to receive what you send through a form on this site;
- our hosting provider, which serves these pages;
- our statistics provider, which counts visits without personal data.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.

Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit what we do with it, or to send it to you in a portable form. You can object to processing we base on legitimate interest. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; that does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Write to contact@madartfoundation.com and we will answer within one month. If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
