Maaike Rabbinge
Works from the conviction that what already exists carries its own design logic. For ECHO, which she initiated, she used the access panels from street lighting poles — components designed to stay hidden inside the structure. She brought them out.

Thursday 17 September 2026 · 14:00 – 14:45 · Sixth floor
Maaike Rabbinge studied psychology in Utrecht and political science in Amsterdam, became a circular designer, and now runs the collective ECHO. Loutje Hoekstra never went to an academy and taught herself everything she knows. Sandra Keja Planken spent a career as an interior architect before she began making autonomous work.
Three makers who arrived here by three different routes, and not one of them the route the system recognises. Dutch funds date a career from a first presentation inside the established circuit. Galleries want a signature they can place. Both measure a path that none of these three walked — and neither has anything to do with the quality of the work.

Maaike Rabbinge works under the name Eenvoud Ontwerp, from the conviction that what already exists contains its own design logic. She works with dimensions, connections and traces of previous use — letting the material decide the outcome rather than imposing a predetermined form.
03Why this maker, and where
As both initiator and participating maker, Rabbinge occupies a particular position in ECHO. Her three works demonstrate the premise of the whole: that overlooked industrial material, attended to with care, reveals its own structural and aesthetic logic.
For this edition she worked with aluminium access panels from the production of street lighting poles — components designed to remain hidden inside the structure. She brought them out.
Sales enquiries for every ECHO work are coordinated by Maaike Rabbinge, who initiated the collective — not by MADART Foundation. 100% of the sale proceeds go to the maker.
